Hi. My broody hen has been sitting on some fertile eggs for 6 days now but I've just realised that I forgot to treat her with lice powder before she began. Is it too late to do this now or can i give her a dusting when I lift her off the nest for a break? Also is there any particular powder that you'd recommend?

If she's sitting tight, then it won't do any harm to dust her. I'd be more inclined to dust for red mite - her and the nest - as she's a sitting target for the blood sucking little *****. I use Barrier Red Mite Powder, but other brands are available.

Yup you can do it now

 

I use Red Mite powder too - do her at the back of her neck, under hen wings and around her vent. A bit in the nest around the eggs and in any cracks in the coop will help too
