HennyPenny
Holly, one of our Miniature Silver Appleyards, has been sitting for ages and I was convinced that nothing would come of it, so didn't get any chick crumb in preparation. Tonight, I went down the garden, looked in the nesting box and.....five fluffy little yellow duckings! Three are very yellow and the other two are much darker (more black feathers) - I don't suppose this is a way of sexing them? I am very, very excited but have no idea what to do! Will scan other threads and I'm sure there'll be lots of advice but just wanted to share the joy!
miller30
No the colour of the ducklings is nothing to do with what sex they are they can live of the yolk for the first few days after hatching so just get some chick crumb in the morning leanne. HennyPenny
and (hopefully) here they are.... with their two Mummies, Holly and Ivy. it's probably a bit strange, but we got Holly and Ivy together from the same breeder and George and Mildred bully them, so they have become very close and often sat on the eggs together, so now they look like an alternative family! Richard T
Here's a bit of video of the ducklings with their mother (Holly) and her lady friend (Ivy). The father (George) makes a brief appearance: It was taken the day after they hatched. They're all doing well. I've got loads more video clips and I'll try to sort out some more film clips. Lesley
Ducks are really messy Karlotta! - they poop in their water as soon as you change it so their area always looks muddy and messy. Great photos Richard - cute ducklings
