Eglu, rabbit hutch, anything else needed?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, we have been offered 2 white stars, and as they are one of my fav breeds, we think we are going to accept the offer. however and this is where i need some helpful people (wink wink) after reading omlet threads and researching how to introduce new hens they all state to beg, steal or borrow anthing they can sleep in. I dont have anything so here i am begging! If anyone could borrow us a hutch eglu etc, we would be so grateful, we live in Bramcote, Nottingham and it will be returned in the same condition as we get it, i dont no if anything will come from this thread but worth a shot, i am now researching vskips and freecycle aswell!!! Thanks in advance xxxx

sorry, not near enough to help, but a spare Eglu run (with the ends suitably closed off/secured) will do the trick, or a dog crate if you can borrow one. At this time of year, a cat-carrier or even a cardboard box would do for them to roost/lay in.

You might be able to get a cheap rabbit hutch from Codnor Pet shop which isn't that far from you. Or even pets at home which would be a little bit more expensive, but if your introducing to your other girls you could keep the hutch/coop that you buy for illness or bullying problems.

or a dog crate or big cat carrier, as long as you know its fox-proof..

I would lend you my coop and run but we're hatching in it and expecting chicks on the 4th july.. sorry. :(

goodluck! :D

Hi, thanks anyway, i understand only the minority would be in a position to help, the friend who is offering me the hens has got a huge dog crate that she doesnt use (she has a little infact tiny dog!) that she actually lent us to pick our hens up, i might ask her if i can borrow it for a few weeks, i never thought of that! Would putting that in a shed or something be ok? thanks everyone again (i cant thank you enough!) after a awful week, my Cherry baby passing away and i was refused my job promotion and my sister becoming poorly im finally getting excited about something! thanks again xxx

Sounds like you've had a hard week.

Well Chickens are amazing creatures, they voices..(maybe except one of our hens CROWING  ) Are so calming.

Putting it in the shed would be fine, as long as you know that the fox can't get in there and scare the chickens, and get to them in fact. Goodluck and looking forward to some pictures of your new girls. 8)

Hi, i have decided to use my cat box, its very big, easier to clean and more secure than my friends dog crate, our shed is secure, we also have a greenhouse and a large garage, i dont fancy them being boiling hot tho or in the garage with paints etc (not that they would be near them) the shed just has chicken feed in, suitcases and bits and bobs! So im almost ready, quite excited now, i hope she brings them this weekend....!!!
