We had a fault on our phone line a while back. BT came out, and disconnected all the extension sockets from the main socket in case that was the fault. It transpired that the fault was outside on the telegraph pole, and not inside the house at all.

 

They fixed the problem, but did not reconnect the internal sockets, so the ones in the other rooms of the house no longer woek. I have spoken to BT and they refuse to reconnect hem, as they are not their responsibilty - even though they were quite happy to disconnect them.

 

Does anyone know how to reconnect them? My husband is usually very good at these things, but can't make them work!

 

Is there anyone out there that might be able to help????

That's an old trick of theirs when they think that you've had an external contractor in fitting extra sockets! They want you to pay them to come out and refit them

 

Try yell.com for your area, I once found a moonlighting BT man who came and fitted extra sockets for me.

I've wired up a phone socket some years ago, using similar instructions. You need a little plastic tool, as I recall, to push the wires into place although I'm sure you could improvise.

But, BE CAREFUL, treat as if you were re-wiring a mains socket, telephone sockets carry quite a bit of electricity and may cause injury .

Thanks everyone - have passed this to OH and he will have another go at the weekend. Fortunately we have got a couple of those plastic tools, so fingers crossed................
