Margalot
Has anyone had the flying ants out yet? My hens are ready for the yearly ant dance / catch but none so far mind you whislt free ranging they happened upon some nests and ate all the ants eggs, went wild for them and completely decimated the nest, they didnt even mind that ants crawling over them! Laura & CTB
I think it is about that time but my lot wont touch ants at all - they say they taste yeuk!
franklyrabbit
I notice that they are usually about around the 27th July (my sister's Birthday). Sometimes they're here a little earlier and in the last couple of years, we have had two separate occurrences in July - so I guess it's nearly time
Troy
How funny you should mention it!! We were just talking about one of our girls, Phoebe, who has a real passion for anything diddy on the wing. We've had many a giggle whilst watching her darting across the lawn this way and that and jumping in the air only to smack herself into the Oak!!! Then she pauses for a second looking stunned and rather daft and probably thinking 'what was that??' troy
sage
Found an ants nest in the compost bin the other night, so had a good dig around and found loads of eggs for the girls to munch on. Last night when they were in the garden I moved a large plant pot and under it was hundreds of flying ants, they soon got eaten up followed by the ants. Later on I lifted the lid on the compost bin and two of the girls got straight in it. Sage
sadietoo
Mmmm...we have had an unusual amount of ants in our en-suite shower room this last week (we live in a bungalow) so I am slightly concerned..shall I bring the girls in for ant-delight and clean the poo...or just get the hoover out ???
