Sooo much pooping

I have finally finished my chicken coop. It took me a week to design it, and a week for my OH to build it. It cost me just under £50 to make. I was hoping to put the new girls in the other coop with my original girls, but have now decided to make them their own separate house for the time being, at least until Glenys and Maureen are well enough to deal with the stress of introductions.

I spent ages gathering ideas and size guides on the net. I used ship-lap cladding which was on offer at £5 a pack at B&Q.

The hardest bit was sawing through the 7" x 3" timbers for the stand!!

Do B&Q have the shiplap on their website? (as I am so impressed I am considering making my own... )

 

What timber did you use for the base? Was that from B&Q too?

The shiplap cladding should be on the website. I saw it in the store at Halifax and bought it there. For the base we went to the local wood yard and got 3/4inch marine ply. The stand was 6"x3" timber we had laying around. I know whickes still have the shiplap on their website.

Just be a bit careful with shiplap cladding - it's too thin for outdoor use and will warp / split prematurely. I'd recommend using thicker shiplap tongue & groove, preferably tanalised.

I hope that it will last me a while the cladding is 1/2" thick. I hope that it will be strong enough.

Its been treated with thompsons water seal, and has had three coats of varnish.

That's good, I thought you meant the thin stuff when you said cladding. It should be fine then - especially with all that treatment!
