Have done al the usual checks, looked at FAQs , does anyone have any clue why Honey would be doing this - she is eating/drinking and fring normally. Every now and then she honks - she is also holding her wings out but we are all in the shade and none of the others appear hot. I have looked in her beak, listened to her breathing, checked her vent , crop and feathers and gently felt her tummy

 

She's sneezing now so rang my vet and I can collect some antibiotics without taking her in

Started on antibiotics but she is not unwell at all - I put poultry spice in their food for the first time today - does it make anyone else's hens sneeze ?

Daft as it sounds, she might have al allergy. It isn't unknown. Spot of hay fever maybe?

I think you are right - she's quite happy in herself, just turned into a goose

 

Just checked on her and she is still holding her wings up - at least antibiotics will help bring her temp down

Well she is now in the dog crate on the table in WIR with water as it's so humid, the cube sunshade over her and scarlett sitting on top I have isolated her as much as I can - it's too hot in house and shed and I need to remove her eggs. I have made her her own pen on the grass for tomorrow but hope she's on the mend then

Just in case this is a bug going round, Honey was rattly this am so I'm glad she has already started on abx as Treacle is sneezing as well. I now have 3 flocks - the poorly girls, the healthy girls and the babies The poorly girls are eating and drinking (just gave them a nice mash) and have formed an escape committee - so far all attempts have been rubbish

 

Hoping to pick up more antibiotics later (my lovely vet only charged me £6 )

Honey finishes her antibiotics today and her rattly chest has gone but she still does the odd sneeze, anyone else had this experience? I'm quite happy to take her to the vet, Treacle seems completely recovered but I caught hers quicker. Both eating, drinking and laying as normal (hate throwing eggs away ).

birds don't usually show signs of illness unless they are VERY poorly so the fact that she seems okay doesn't mean she doesn't (or didn't) have an infection. If the antibiotics haven't done the trick then she really ought to be checked over by a vet.

Hmm it's not unusual for a chook to need a 2nd course of anti-bioticss or even a different type - we had green stuff (added to water, can't remember what it was called ) then had to give our girl a course of Tylan after that (zero withdrawal period for your own consumption ) but there's also Baytril... see how she is in the morning I guess

I took her to the vet this pm (see my building up post) and he gave her a shot of a different antibiotic and she has perked up already

Glad Honey is feeling better. I had to take new girl Flora to the vet yesterday for Baytril as both her and Fleur have colds and Fleur was just starting to get a bit rattly. Its great fun trying to syringe Baytril into two previously unhandled chickens. They aren't impressed.
