hippy chick
I have been looking at different websites and one of them suggests that giving the hens damp or wet feed can cause sour crop. Is this true? http://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=117623 The Ex-bat people told me it was fine to mix their mash in water to feed them on a morning. I have been feeding the girls wet feed for the past few weeks to try and get some water into them during the hot weather. Does this mean that I have caused the sour crop and poisoned my chickens? If anyone knows how to prevent sour crop please give me some advice because i'm at my witts end. I lost one Chuck today through it, and i'm pretty sure another one has signs of it
Egluntyne
I think dishing up mash that has been allowed to get wet through poor storage may well cause a problem, but moistening it with clean water prior to serving won't, unless they don't eat it all and it sits around festering for a few days. I would try her on clean water only for a couple of days, with a couple of tiny drops (no more) of Milton in it. A friend of mine swears by this. scarlettohara
Sorry to hear about your chicken and hope your others are OK. It dificult when you are new to them (as I am) and not sure if you have done the right thing. I put poultry spice in their food yesterday for the 1st time and now I have one honking and sneezing. It's probably a coincidence but I feel like it's my fault
