AbigailGrace
Hello everyone.. Well to start it's not my hen that is missing, it's someone else's.. My neighbour noticed 2 lads walking down my street with a chicken and swore blind that she thought it was mine so the two lovely boys brought it down to mine and well as soon as i saw it i knew it wasn't my hen.. But it was late around 9pm and i wasn't going to leave the boys with a chicken.. So i took it in poped her into a basket and in the cube with the other girls.. But she did seem to be restless in her basket so i took her out and she settled right in with the others, and this morning she had a nice large egg for me. She is a lovely hen, but my dilema is what do i do.. I am going to make a few signs and run them around the area, but she could of come from anywhere, we are not far from a large moor where i know there are a few keepers that back onto it.. But I know that if i were to take her to the rspca they would put her down as thats what they do with birds other than parrots etc. But we tried and tried ringing them to let them know we currently have a missing bird or found if you may.. What else can i do.. If it were me and my hen had gone i would be ever so upset so i would like for it to be with it's other friends. Thankyou.. p.s. i was checking her over last night to see how she was and she only has one wattle. and the other is say how it would be on a chick. she is around a year+ i would say.. its a little strange. sage
I would keep hold of her, put posters out say Hen found even place an add in the local paper lost & found section. Do all you can to find the owners. Wouldn't give her to RSPCA. sage
Egluntyne
I would also post on other chicken keeping forums.
Willow
I'd let the local police station know as well just in case the owner tries asking them if anyone has reported finding a chicken.
Roobaloo
Also let local Vets know...
Hen_Pecked
Did you not ask the kids where it had come from? I'd certainly let the Police know, as I would definitely report if any of mine went missing. Change the topic title to "Found Chicken" though! Egluntyne
Change the topic title to "Found Chicken" though! Good idea. Done.
little brown hen
You could also try the local animal shelter too. but if its people who have lots of chickens they may not realise they've lost one. She's a very individual looking hen isnt she. Perhaps she escaped from a lorry taking her to the abattoir. that happens from time to time. Bexibex
Oh, the poor little thing. I still have my four girls, just went and checked just in case as they only started free ranging in the garden yesterday. What if an owner doesn't turn up? Do you have anyone who would be willing to take her on? Whereabouts in York was it?
majuka
Other than the suggestions above I can't think of anyone else you could notify. How sad if she is someone's pet. Would you keep her if the owner could not be traced?
mum-2-olly
ahh that is really sad if it someone's pet. i hope you find her real owner, poor lil chick pea!
