How to stop intros sleeping in cube nest box

Recommended Posts

Hi

I recently introduced 3 bantams to my 5 chickens. They all go in the (cube green) and have thus far got on fine.

The only problem is there is now a lot of poo (bantam) in the nest box which use to be squeaky clean.

Will this resolve itself?

Not sure what to do, no point blocking it off as the big girlies often are laying first thing in the morning(ie I dont want to get up crack of dawn etc)

Any tips thanks Donald.

I think it will either resolve itself or you'll have to get used to poo picking! Once they are all comfortable together then you could try putting something in the nest box - but then you'd have to get up to get it out if the big ones lay early. Maybe others will have a solution

I only have my two older girls in the cube at the moment, they always sleep in the nest box. I just poo pick in the morning when I let them out. It only takes a moment.

My new girls in the eglu very rarely sleep in the eglu nest box. When the old girls were in the eglu before they moved into the cube I used to block the eglu nest box off but if I forgot they were straight in there, so it was obviously where they wanted to sleep. Blocking the cube nest box might be a bit tricky a large flower pot worked in the eglu :?
