txswanie
Brigitte's neck/chest has been getting steadily balder for about 2 months. I never see any of the others peck her (she is quite a bossy boots) and there are no sores or cuts. I see a few feathers about on the grass every day but not many inside the coop. The bald spot is right where her own beak would be if she put her head down. Would a chicken pull out her own feathers? What would cause her to do that? I have been putting no pick spray on her for about a week but no change. Did she (or someone else) get used to the taste? How do I stop this, I dont want a plucked chicken. Thanks Colette. frizz
Hi Colette Sorry I cant answer your question, but thought it may help a little to know I have a pekin with the same problem, she is the top hen and I have never seen her being pecked but she also has a bald spot under her chin. It will be interesting to see if anyone knows what causes this and how to stop it. Good luck with your girls.
JanTheDiver
I have two that are like this, same place. I put it down to eating out of the Grub's, but the others don't have it so I am not sure this is the answer
Tutti Frutti
Same here! Actually, here Roxy, my top chook, has a bald neck It's since Ursula died so I think Roxy is being pecked by whoever had a taste for Ursula's neck feathers
txswanie
I didn't think about the neck rubbing off of something. I have a Grub and its quite low as the other girls are smaller than Brigitte. They don't have bare necks. I wonder if it is that? It's weird, I cannot imagine her letting anyone peck her but I guess you never know. If you ever work it out please let us know. Colette and Baldy Brigitte.
Egluntyne
The neck is a common place for a mini moult to occur. It might just be that.
