Ginger-Paddlers
Hi All, We got our three girls (POL Hy-Line Hybrids) on Wednesday and they are already all laying an egg a day. Everything is going great EXCEPT that they just don't want to go to bed when we shut them in between 8.30 pm and 9.00 pm each night. We've been reduced to sending one of our kids into the run to shoo them in - getting poo on his pyjamas in the process! Do you have ANY suggestions as to how to get them more simply? Egluntyne
It is said that if you leave a torch in the Eglu, they will investigate it and go in. I've never found that it works myself. Many's the time I have resorted to waving a mop at new chickens, through the run door, to get them in. They will soon get the hang of it. JS1
My three ex-batts are late birds - they'll go to bed when it's properly dark but not before, unlike their older sisters who pop themselves to bed at dusk. I'm afraid in the summer I've resorted to popping them through the Eglu egg port (making sure the door is closed so they don't run straight out again). Sadly it's now become a habit and I think they quite like their night-time cuddle, so I wouldn't recommend it necessarily unless you want to make a rod for your own back! In the winter (or if I'm going out for the evening in the summer) it's no problem - I put them into the run when it starts to get dark and they put themselves to bed early enough for it to be no hardship for me to pop out and shut the door. Good luck
Ginger-Paddlers
Hi, Thanks for the feedback. Looks like there is no routine solution so we will just have to get better at shooing!
