Well, I collected my second hand cube (actually, I think it might be third hand) this afternoon, together with 9 beautiful girls.

 

Gave it a good scrub . I noticed those fat little black spots someone was talking about the other day (the air bubbles filled with red mite) Will have to do something about that tomorrow. It was so late this afternoon by the time I cleaned it all, the girls just wanted to go to bed. So we put it together (without instructions!) and as soon as we put the ladder on they all lined up and hopped into bed It was so sweet.

 

Me and DD had a good shower as I kept finding miniscule crawling things that looked like miniture ticks on me Will give the girls a good Diatom dusting tomorrow.

 

I am excausted, but the proud owner of a purple cube. I have read the measurements before, but seeing it in real life - it is HUGE - and doesn't really fit into my new WIR. Husband is not happy, to say the least. We will have to amend the run so that it can be outside... But that is another job for another day. Will post piccies soon...

Black dots on the outside of the cube are probably dirt - not necessarily red mite as they don't like the light. Anyway, I'm sure the hens are glad to be back in their home- enjoy!

I thought the same when I first saw a cube!

You have to see them rather that just from photos - really big inside too

 

 

The mites crawling on you were probably red mite.

I'd give it a jet wash, leave the roof off so the sun gets in it and get some mite powder or spray.

Might want to check and treat the girls too
