New CLB chick

Recommended Posts

So it seems one of my new chicks I got a couple of weeks ago may be a boy. :(

Thumbs up to Jody who has sorted it out for me and dropped a 'replacement' off today.

So tonight I will be putting the new 8 week old CLB chick in with my other chicks at bedtime.

Fingers crossed it will go well and they won't miss Delboy when he goes home with Jody on Friday.

Not an ideal situation but I they have come from the same place and speedy integration may be key.

If anyone has advice that would be great. Thanks.

Phew - all seemed well this morning. I spent a little time with them while they all came out for breakfast and it looked as though they had known each other for ages. Fingers crossed it will stay that way.

I'll keep a close eye on them today. The newer chick is a bit bigger than my others so I'd guess is a week or two older.

Sometimes I wonder if I worry too much.

They are all cuddled up together tonight it is really sweet.

That's following a 'heart in the mouth moment' when I realised the new one had escaped the run, it's long story but it was a problem due to strong winds, (all sorted now) and was meeting the big girls!

Fortunately she was happy for me to catch her.

:(

Delboy has now been collected so I am back to 3 chicks (and 6 hens) again now.

It's funny how even after only a couple of weeks I feel a little sad he has gone. I'd be rubbish at the breeding business!

The great news is that Jody will be using him (still want to type 'her') next year so he is going to have a very jolly time meeting the ladies when he is older. :)

The replacement is a gem. :D
