Dudley Zoo

Recommended Posts

That's a great story Kate. Poor wee Albert being blind. Doesn't it just break your heart. Looks like he's having a nice cuddle there though :)

It is hard when animals have to live in captivity as they'd never make it in the wild, there is no better place than a natural habitat, but in Alberts case, it is the best thing for him.

I went to see a dolphin show once. I couldn't go again. I agree with you Kate and hope that animals get the respect they deserve if they are bought up in captivity and aren't just there for our entertainment.

my aunt (who lives in Birmingham) tells the story many years ago when she went as nurse with a "Special school" (as they were called back then) on a trip to Dudley Zoo.

One of the older lads was fairly responsible - and was allowed to wander off on his own. He was late back to the bus - and was very wet - but they assumed he had had an accident with the taps in the bathroom or something - and didn't thing anything of it.

when he got home - he went straight upstairs and locked himself in the bathroom and didn't come out..

eventually they persuaded him to open the door - to find that he had taken a young penguin (smuggled it out under his ample raincoat) and had filled the bath for it..

They rang the zoo - and the zoo did not believe them - and hung up!!

true story!!
