Gone right off the ladies today

Recommended Posts

I'm really nervous about something that's happening today - I can't even drink coffee or eat chocolate, and the chickens decide to fight. They have never fought at all, only little reminder pecks, but they're really going for it today.

I've waved the broom at them, sprinkled bird seed around and hung up a cabbage and they've calmed down a lot. I just can't believe they picked today to start being aggressive with each other!

Little Madams.

Mine have been picking on each other for a couple of weeks now and they are driving me mad. Put a bumper bit on the worst offender as she was picking on the lowest girl and now one of the others is attacking the one with the bit on. I'm starting to find it all a bit stressful :wall:

They also started out with little reminder pecks and then seemed to get worse. I've no idea why they started either as they have been fine for a year - maybe its the weather or something.

Fingers crossed they sort themselves out

Thank you all. All resolved, one of twins had day one assessment for job he really wants, stage one has been successful. It's the first interview he's had since Dec! I have taken sweetcorn to the chickens because I was lacking patience earlier, they gave me an old fashioned look and then forgave me because i was holding sweetcorn. Phew! :)

Every year chickens redo the pecking order, to make sure they have the best boss. Your chickens are probably trying to sort theirs out again. If the bumper bit is causing a problem, remove it, and be on the prowl with a water sprayer and spray anyone you see do a really nasty peck when they do it. Don't punish every peck though - if you do, they'll never sort out a pecking order.

Hi Pats - I read your post yesterday and wondered what can that be about. Today ours are going mental too, little pecks to start than attacking the ducks.

DW got so cross she put the hose on them :lol:

Glad the assessment went well - job hunting isn't much fun in the best of times

Good luck
