2009 Omlet cube and run for sale

Hi,

 

I wonder if someone can give any advice or suggestions.

 

One of my chickens is looking under the weather.

One of her eyes is closed.

The comb on top seems to be damaged (may have been caused by one of 3 chickens which were staying over temporarily - took them a while to settle in and have since left)

She just stands and isn't moving much and is making a strange noise.

 

She is about 6 years old. I'm told Chickens live up to about 7 years old. Could this mean she is leaving us?

They close one eye when poorly and the comb damage was probably being picked on because she's not well. Sounds like she has a respiratory infection with the noise so I would get her some treatment at vet. Hope she picks up.

As always i can rely on this forum for the great advice. She (snowy) is actually one of the original omlet girls.

What is usually given for respiratory problems?

 

Can chickens live beyond 7 years of is that the upper limit?

Not sure, not had that problem but there are lots of posts so guess if you search you will find out.

Baytril was given to mine for respiratory problems and it worked - don't know for elderly ones. Best ask the vet

Could be mycoplasma. I'd take her to the vet to be on the safe side.

Thanks for the replies.

 

Had some Baytril left over, so gave her that yesterday, with a view of taking her to the vet today.

 

This morning she looked a lot healthier, chasing pigeons, cleaning her feathers and scratching in the garden. Will continue with the Baytril, hopefully she'll return to her normal self.
