I was told that she was 16 weeks when I got her, so I guess she is 19 wks now. chicken bark Posted August 13, 2010 Share Posted August 13, 2010 It is exciting. However I've got a hen who's 40 weeks and not laid yet. I think I'll faint with shock if she ever lays now! I shouldn't think it would be very long now she's crouching - and I'm sure it will be fine. I wonder if it is a shock to them the first time? Sue Posted August 30, 2010 Share Posted August 30, 2010 I think it often is a surprise when they lay their first egg. Sometimes it will just be on the floor somewhere, and they even will lay from the perches till they get the hang of things. I couple of false eggs in the nest boxes can be a help at giving them the right idea, and also it is supposed to help stop them egg eating, as they have a good "look" at it with their beaks and decide its not edible before the real eggs appear. It was so excited that when I tried to take a photo I dropped it! She has been laying for a week now, her eggs are small but perfect.
