CluckyBucks
Hi, my hen has just layed a softie (this is common for her) but only the yolk came out, the shell is half stuck out of her bum. trouble is, i tried pulling it but some of her insides came out a little, but they went back in. The shell is stuck i think and i dont know what to do, please help. If her insides do come out, what do i do? is there anyway i can get the shell out without this from happening? Thankyou all. xx xx
Plum
I would try gently breaking the shell a bit more and use some lubrication- water if nothing else. You have to get it out and keep everything clean. Put your finger in and feel around carefully and oik it out. Keep going until you are sure everything is out and no bits of bedding have gone in If you can give her a spray with purple spray that will help keep things clean. If she prolapses, which can happen then quickly check its clean or quick sluice and apply gentle pressure with the flat of your hand and it will go back. Then just rotate your finger inside to smooth creases and settle things down. Good luck

Sheilaz
I'm no expert, I can only say what I'd do; Firstly, I'd gently give her a warm bath in a bucket or bowl in the kitchen. It may relax the muscles & let the rest release naturally. A gentle, warm hair dryer can be helpful & ensure she's not going to bed damp. Then, a dark box of straw as a bed in kitchen/utility/garage. Then I'd look up "prolapse" to be prepared if she does, (think latex gloves & lubricant to very gently post it back) and go back & check on her. All the best! I just posted in case no one with direct experience is around tonight. PS...Keep a close eye as a burst egg which isn't all removed can need a vet urgently. If she seems well when the shell is laid that should be OK, you just don't want any bits of egg or shell left inside her.
