I am planning a permanent run but don't think I need make it 6 ft high. I am happy to crouch to poo pick. Also, my ex- batts don't seem to climb anything. I have logs piled up but they walk round them. It is only when I clean out the Eglu with the lid off that they climb through that! If I had a mezzanine level, would ex- batts use that? They are happy on grass at the minute (yes, still grass after nearly 2 months!) and I wonder how they would cope on hard standing and bedmax for example as there would be nothing for them to eat on the ground. I would like to attach the eglu to the outside of the run. Many thanks.

You could put some tub in there with plants/grass in. I've got perches and a mud bath in my WIR but they don't bother with them. They do scratch around in the auboise though as I only have a mesh floor. They still free range a lot though and only go in the run at night or when I am out.

i gather dandelions, and tasty green things on our dog walk every morning and they have those. Cabbage leaves go down a treat also

If they are not bothered about leaping onto perches why not just lay some logs or branches on the ground for them to sit on to make it more interesting for them

Yes, I was just wondering if anyone had ex-batts which do climb. If they are unlikely to I will stick to crouch in height with logs around. Will they miss the grass if they are are on hard standing with bedmax?

yes some do eventually, once one does others do, just keep them low, them like to hop up and sit on things.

Mine don't seem to climb but they do like to get onto flowerpots and one likes to jump onto my partner's lap and try and drink his cup of tea when he sitting in the garden
