gonetoearth
I'm thinking of adding some pure breed chickens to my flock and was wondering if anyone had any advice to give about a good breed. Basically, I'm looking for something which is robust, health wise and friendly to go with my Ginger Ranger and Miss Pepperpot. We're thinking of upgrading to a larger Eglu to house them all. migsy
I've got a Light Sussex and she is really friendly. I think they are fairly good layers as well for a pure breed.

chicken bark
Sussex, Rhode Island Red, Cream Legbars, Marans, Wellsummers and no doubt lots more. All should be hardy, friendly and good layers. Well - fingers crossed anyway as I have some of the above. Ha Ha.

brambles
I've just bought a light sussex, araucana (mad!) and a lavender cochin to add to my lot. My original omlet girls were added to with a speckledy and a columbine (also mad), I then added a partridge cochin and a legbar. Cochins are totally gorgeous but don't lay much. I've been pleased with my light sussex but she's quite an assertive mother hen - she's let me pick her up, but the cochins have the most gentle 'bok' by far. dixie chick
I have seven pure breeds and I would say that the most adorable is Mrs Moss - the Buff Orpington. My Barnevelder is the most stand-offish and my Speckled Sussex is bottom of the pecking order so difficult to assess her true personality.... I do have a really soft spot for Lulu the Vorwerk, so friendly ...... as is my Araucana, not mad at all but will do anything for a mealworm. I am least fond of my Welsummer but maybe thats because she is top hen and quite a bully. That just leaves Suzy the Silver Laced Wyandotte, not the most friendly but really stunning to look at..... Not sure if that helps at all but at least it might let you see that they all have their merits!!
