Cube door & cube makeover

Recommended Posts

I've modified my cube run as I added an additional one metre extension which meant that I couldn't open the door at the end - it ended on the fence for my 'contained' free range run.

So that I could let my girls out I ordered an extra door panel, took off a side panel and fitted the extra door panel to this - with a little minor bodging! The door panel is not as deep as the side panel, so the 'gap' at the base is supported on some slabs and the earth base to the run remodelled by the hens.

It's fab having a door on the side - it has made it much easier to rake over the run and to reach in to access things.

I now have 3 run extensions on the cube - a final piece of work to be done in autumn is to move a few plants so that I can move the 'original' door the 6 inches down one of the side panels to get it all lined up properly.

I'll go out and take some photos.

I did email omlet about whether they had any plans to make a properly sized and sided side panel with door that could be swopped in with one of the weldmesh side panels - no plans as yet. It would give people with limited space the option to make their run larger and would be a *good idea*!

This shows the new 'side' door in the middle panel - two of my ladies modelling behind it.

Here's the original front door, butted up to the fence - a little more jiggery pokery required in autumn when I can move the plants blocking it. You can see the side access on the middle panel.

A longer view - with the new girls' temporary accomdation for plenty of mutual eyeballing!
