I am thinking about getting a cockerel, so I can rear a few chicks.

 

But first, how do you introduce him to the girls in the first place

My Phillip was brought up with the others so I didn't introduce them.

 

I suspect you open the door and stand back! Your head chook may have a go at him, but they usually settle down. This is pre-supposing he is fully grown. If not, I'd do the slow introduction as for hens, till they are all the same size

I introduced a little cockerel, thinking it was a hen, no wonder he got bullied so much.

But there all ok now, and the cockerel now trys to mate with my turkey hen.

I would just introduce him straight away ...

As been said before the head hen might have a go at him but should settle down after a while

Just a thought, shouldn't you quarantine him for a week or so, first? (just in case he's got something lurking that only needs a stressful situation to trigger off) or has he already been on the premises - but separate from the girls?

Saronne is right - as with all intros, you should really quarantine them before intro'ing to the others

 

After that, I'd pop him straight in with them and just watch they are getting on ok
