ive hatched appenzellers they are 3 weeks old and still in the kitchen ,all i can say is thier mad as a box of frogs lol

when ever im changing food and water i end up chasing them round the room . but they are beautifull ,the kids call them cow birds

Haha i know the appenzeller here is mental. She is small so squeezed through a gap in the WIR and decided the roof of the garage was nice to sit on. Got her down

I have a lavender Araucana and she is lovely and friendly. Quite dominant with the other birds but also popular. I love the way she looks at you - somehow her eye is less beady and chickeny than the others. She also does not lie down like a chicken - but lies down on her side, stretched out like a labrador! A real character - and the blue eggs are just a bonus!

Hi, I have an auracana too & love her to bits. She's very elgant, extremely pretty ,friendly but def. not cuddly . However she's ever so broody At least 4/5 times this summer. Was also a flier and took to roosting in the trees at night. Seems to have outgrown this now. Perhaps it was toddlerhood

Yes, I was surprised as I had never heard of araucanas being particulary prone to broodiness. They are known to be great mums though so if you're tempted.................

Good choices, my araucana is so soft feathered and quite inquisitive. The little app zell is more reserved and is last in the pecking order, however the app zell x silkie is the boss, her hat feathers go the other way though and aren't as impressive. The araucana is growing rather a fetching beard thing too. Yes they really can get some height on their flights, had no choice but to do some wing clipping, shame.
