joza2210
Hello , When i go to my rare breeds auction this weekend i would be interested in buying some german langshans bantams... But my dad said a while back in the practical poultry magazine it says that they only live for a year ... Is this true ? Thanks Josh
Guest
Just had a look in last months and nope they live upwards of 5 years They are mainly for show though a good hen will lay 60 eggs and a poor hen will lay 30ish so if you want to show them then perfect but if you want them for eggs no Also watch out you should be paying over £80 for a good show or breeding pair

The Dogmother
ChickensGalore is right, they live as long as any other pure breed. I currently have 4 German Langshans bantam growers, they are fast and have endless energy, but are very amusing.
Jools
I think he may be confusing them with Croad Langshans which are reputed to have a lethal gene (related to their short legs). The German Langshan is a different beast, so you should be fine. Last months' Practical Poultry mag had a feature on them which said there are only a dozen reputable breeders in the UK, so getting hold of some good ones might not be easy. Redwing
"Ooops, word censored!"by Ward probably has some of the best in the UK, I dont think he sells many if any though!!
