Canterbury area

Recommended Posts

Hi there , I live in Broadstairs and have recently aquired my first chickens. I have a second hand eglu classic. Cant help really on recommending somewhere to get your chucks from as mine came from a friend who had hatched more than he needed. I think the best thing to do is buy a copy of the poultry magazine and look at local breeders in there. As for other stuff I know Scats in Canterbury sell most of what you will need, they are on the Wincheap Industrial Estate.

Good Luck, jane

most petshops seem to stock chicken food now, my local now has a little chicken corner which is quite cute with disinfectant and things.

if i remember rightly from when i lived there, i'm pretty sure the pet food shop in northgate stocks chicken food. maybe give them in a ring in advance? 01227 455263

also i think there is a pets at home place in canterbury somewhere..they must sell chicken feed

if you havent found any chickens yet there is a chap in Wye who is very good (cant remember his name but could try and find it if you like). otherwise there is a place in Maidstone which is excellent and often recommended by other omleteers - Teston/Heston or something poultry I think. at all costs avoid a certain place near Ashford which also breeds exotic south american animals and has reindeers and does Christmas grotto type events - I got some chooks from there a couple of years ago which had mycoplasma; subsequently any new bird has gone through a period of sniffles on arrival.

Just caught up with this.

We get our chickens from Churchman's at Faversham (near Brogdale). There are a number of suppliers roundthe Canterbury area for supplies. We've put some links below:

http://www.churchmans.co.uk/index.shtml

http://www.bargatefeed.co.uk/shop_poultryandbird.shtml

(deliver to Canterbury area)

Chilham Animal & Pet Merchants 01227 731159

East Stour Farm, Fodmersham

(do easibed as well)

There's also a country shop on the Cow Lane retail park that does chickeny things.

Hope this is helpful.
