Our ex-batts have had their first free range in the garden this afternoon, and quickly found a shady corner of the garden which has a compost heap in the corner, but otherwise is quite bare and dusty. Henrietta and Lucky immediately started scratching at the base of the compost heap, finding woodlice and worms, but Cleopatra found a nice dusty spot, and settled herself down. I don't know how to upload photos onto this thing, if I could I would put a picture of her on. She just sat there quietly - do they normally just sit there, or do they flap around making a hole? Lynne Hiya Lynne We had great fun yesterday watching our girls in the dust and garden especially Cottie (our ) she was even kind of rolling in it, flapping her wings and looking ever so content! Hens were out again this morning for an hour, this time with our dog (german shepherd cross), who is also confused when looking at the chickens - they take no notice of him, even when he goes right up to them for a cautious sniff. If they move a muscle towards him he runs away! Only one of my hens seems to like the dust, and she just sits on it.
