Raina
Hi all, I'm hoping to get 1 - 2 silkie hens soon but i have some questions. Orakiah was top hen, will i have more problems with intro's? Will getting some lower ranking hens help? Should i get 1 Hen or 2? Should i use a Rabbit hutch attached to a Run as a Intro Pen? If i can't get hold of a Run that will attach to the Rabbit Huch could i just plaster all the Birds in Anti-pecking spray and let them all free-range and hope for the best? (That's what my cousin does and he's never had a problem) Thanks, Raina. P.S. Sorry if my spelling is bad,I'm on the Wii and i find it hard to type lol
migsy
There is advice here viewtopic.php?f=42&t=25886#p431366 about integratrating hens. I would suggest 2 new ones and yes, an extra run might help. It took me 8 weeks to integrate mine. They had separate living quarters but free ranged together. chicken bark
I think slowly does it is they key and give them as much space as possible. You'll need to quarantine your new girls for a week so a rabbit hutch and run is a good idea. Unfortunately you don't know what ranking hen you are going to get until they all muck in together and sort it out. Definitely get two. Hope it goes well and as Migsy has said there is plenty of information on introductions on this site. Good luck.
Raina
Thanks I do have a Barkshire 8 panel dog pen.Could i put a pet carrier (Or dog crate) in this and use it during the day and bring the hens in at night? What do you think? Mine's the same as this one The base is removeable so the chickens could get to some grass
chicken bark
Always best to make do with what you have. I think that would work.
