Christmas market help

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I'm planning on booking a trip to a Christmas Market soon and plan to go to one in Germany.

I've been to Cologne twice, an Easter Market in Munich, the one in Birmingham and the one along the SouthBank.

I think we might go to Heidelberg this year and I was wondering if anyone else had been there or had other recommendations. I particularly like Medieval Markets.

Thank you

It you are thinking of going to Heidelberg, are you flying to Frankfurt and then by train/bus?

It is worth going to Frankfurt as they have several markets dotted around. It looks like Advent is Sunday 28th November this year, so the markets should be open from then on. :D

Duesseldorf has lots of markets, the Berlin one is quite small. Hamburg is one of my favourites and a lovely City to wander around too, very pretty. I have been going to Bremen since I was very young to visit my Gran and it has a lovely market. Great tram service (as does everywhere in Germany) and easy to walk everywhere. Lovely atmosphere.

Have fun!

Thank you Christian for all the suggestions, we're probably going to drive as getting to Germany doesn't take too long, we reckon we could get to Heidelberg in 5 hours. It takes us about three hours to get to Cologne. So I shall look at the other places and work out routes and mileage and see what's best.

Thank you for the link, that is brilliant.

My parents have a house in Trier which they bought a few years ago. It takes them about 6 hours to drive to from Calais. 300 miles roughly, through France, Belgium, Luxembourg (briefly). It takes us longer to visit OH's Mum in Ayr!!

Many little Towns have mini Christmas markets too, with home made wines, schnapps and cakes too. Worth stopping if you get a chance. :D
