Chicken deficient
I've got my lovely new Wyandotte bantams at last! They are just over 20 weeks old, but not laying yet. I was unable to get hold of the grower's pellets that the breeder used, so had to subject them to a sudden diet change. They don't seem to be suffering any ill - effects. I put them onto Organic Layers Pellets, thinking they were approaching POL. However, now I'm doubting myself and wondering if they may not start laying until the spring, being pure breed. So...should they still be on growers pellets?
laurmurf
i think you'll be okay... Growers tend to be used from 6 weeks until POL (which could also be somewhere around 20 weeks old). If you've got layers in and they're eating then, then i wouldn't worry overly about giving them growers.
Redwing
Officially they are absolutely fine with layers pellets In saying that I breed Wyandotte bantams for show and leave mine on growers pellets till they are about 8 months old and in some cases beyond that as they arent a quick maturing breed and I think it does them some extra good - but thats only my personal way of doing things! Chicken deficient
Thank you both. I'll leave them on the layers pellets then for now.

jill the potter
I dont have Wyandottes (unfortunately) but I stressed over when to change my two over to layers but they decided themselves...when I started to let them free range together both new girls would head back to the run and snaffle the layers pellets when their own were on offer!!
