Im so angry...

Just been asked by somebody at work am I going to wring the Chickens neck for Christmas.

Why do they think its funny. Have tried to explain why would I hurt one of my pets, but seems to fall on deaf ears.

Silly but am upset, sorry rant over back to the office.

People can be very crass. I just say yes and that I'm going to make a chicken and guineapig galantine, and as lots of people don't know what that is, the joke just dies.

I agree with patsylabrador. It's often best to play them at their own game.

 

They think they are being clever when really they just look pathetic. It's a shame to think that 'bullying' doesn't stop at school.

(We don't even have a dog, but it can have the desired effect)

Sounds like this type of "joke" is getting more common as more and more people start keeping chickens as pets - I think a few people have had similar comments recently (including me). You just have to do as the others said and play them at their own game, tell them you have a particularly good recipe for their dog / cat / hamster etc when it goes!!

Oh, you get this a lot. Some people think that they are the first people ever to shout 'Paxo!' or 'Roast dinner!' when they hear that you keep chooks. I find a bored sigh and a change of subject the most effective weapon

I reply by saying "Yes..... but we're unsure as to which one to choose yet"

That reply is met with gasps followed by "are you really?"

I say yes because we have done previously and hope to again next year. That pretty soon shuts them up

i wouldn't eat any of my hens. Why, not enuff meat for a start. These are the same peeps who ask if the whit and blue eggs taste the same and do you have to have a male with the girls.

 

I did have a rooster with originally 5 isa warrens but while 4 of them didn't seem to mind his 'attentions' my fave hen, 2ic (2nd in command) would do anything to get away from him. This included running as fast as she could into my french doors.

Something had to be done......................he was just over 5lb. Reared and cared for by me and had a wonderful time until that day. I kept his tail feathers and they are on proud display above a picture.
