Today we have merged the flocks

Recommended Posts

As we have had our new girls for 6wks tomorrow, which makes them 20wks old, we have taken down the divider in the WIR, put up a few higher levels so the new girls can escape if needed, so they are now all together

We are hoping everything will be fine, the new girls seem quite wary of the ex batts at the moment and are spending most of their time walking around the Eglu, which is on a table, or going up the ramps to the higher levels.

For now we are leaving both the Eglu and Cube in the WIR, in case they don't want to sleep in the same place, but I guess we can't leave it like that for too long.

Honestly it's nerve wracking.

Now I have over half a bag of growers pellets to get rid of as I bought too much :wall:

Glad your ex batts are now better Scarlett, it's such a worry when they aren't right I know.

OH is down B&Q at the moment as he isn't happy with his handywork and wants to change some of the wooden bits around in the WIR. Most of the wood we have bought are planks of decking. They seem ideal as they have grooves in them, so makes it easy for the girls to get a grip on them plus they are pretty cheap too. The bits of half log rolls we have used on the ramps aren't working very well as they seem to slip on them, so they are going to be replaced.

Checked on the girls a little while ago and 4 are in the Eglu and 4 are in the Cube, guess it's just what they are used to

What a great set-up!:clap: I've just shown the photos to my husband and I hope to be getting some more timber this weekend!! :D:D

My thoughts exactly :D . What a fab set up. Going to be showing pics to my hubby too as we need to enrich the inside of WIR and think what you have done is brilliant. xx

Well done

Mix the growers pellets in with their normal food till its gone, it will be fine, growers is useful at this time of year too when older hens may be moulting

There was me thinking it was harmful for my ex batts to eat the growers pellets and I have no idea where I got that from

Glad it's gone well. Your run looks fab, I bet your glad you stuck with it.

My little yellow leggers had a brief encounter with 2 of the black leg gang this morning just to see how it went. Not bad, so will keep trying everyday now just for a short time with me being referee.
