Chicky
Hi I might get my hamster tomorrow, i have got the cage but not sure which type of hamster i should get. I know that syrian hamsters are popular. In your opinion which breed of hamster is best and how many should I have. Thanks Chicky xx
craftyhunnypie
Just get the one hamster - as people usually get the sex of hamsters wrong. What may have started out as 2 hamsters, could soon become 8! I'd go for a normal sized hamster - not one of those teeny russian types. As cute as they seem, they live shorter lives. My sister had much better luck with normal sized ones. Emma.x
Ain't Nobody Here
I agree . We had a dwarf hamster once and he was so small he was difficult to handle. Oscar (below, RIP ) was the best hamster ever . Make sure you get one from a breeder rather than a big store like Pets At Home. You want one that's been handled a lot rather than born in a crate with hundreds of others. They'll be a lot friendlier that way .
