thenewchick
I have had my 2 newbie's for over 4 weeks now. They have been living in the wir and my original girls have been in their elgu with half the garden each. I let them all out together at the weekend (with my broom in hand, and my stomach doing somersaults) They seemed to HATE one of the newbies with a passion pecking her comb and jumping on her and pecking feathers out her head! The other one only seemed to get the odd peck if she got too close to the old girls. So my question is what should I do now?? Keep them separate or just let them get on with it by just letting them out for a short period every day or what? Also, the one that got a peck on her comb it seems to be like a little hole in it will this heal-up? Hope someone can help - thanks

thenewchick
Thank you I have read all the 'instructions' I think it's me that is too scared to 'let them get on with it' will try again this afternoon and let them FR again together fingers crossed I was a bit surprised that it would take about 3 weeks before they all flocked together though
meezers
I found the same thing when I re intergrated muppet and the 'chicks' ( 23 weeks old - whopping great chicks ! ) with my other chooks. The chicks and the new auracana was completely ignored, but poor Muppet was jumped on, pinned down and attacked by Ozzy with Mabel and Doris cheering her on. I got Ozzy off of her and then pinned Ozzy down myself - it's a way of asserting dominance. Anyway , it seems to have done the trick as Ozzy just gives muppet the evil eye from a distance now.Maybe try that with the attacker and have a squuirty bottle/water pistol on standby as well. Patricia W
It's taken me 9 months before now! The quickest has been about 6 weeks though so don't despair. Feeding them together but separated by a barrier such as Omlet netting is a good way to getting them used to feeding together. A water pistol is a useful accessory too
thenewchick
Oh my I don't believe it I let them all FR this afternoon allowing them the whole garden and then they all went to bed in the all cuddled together like best friends I can't really believe it Do you think that is it then they are all friends now I hope so
daxigirl
My 2 factions will wander the garden with the biguns chasing the littlies now and again so I tried shutting them all in the just to see what would happen and the biguns all stood halfway up the run so they could peck at the littlies as they rushed past to avoid them. I left it about half and hour and decided that maybe the littlies needed another couple of weeks. Am I being a wuss or should I let them get on with it? thenewchick
well it seems a strange world this chicken keeping, I think it's a lot to do with each invididual chicken, and how they interact with each other and what their personalities are As I suspected Belle would be the trouble maker in my gang
daxigirl
My decision has been made for me as I have to go to Kent on Thursday (mother in hospital) and they will have to come along and make use of their holiday home. So that's that. Paxo no 3 in big girls pecking order was the worst although Lisa (no 1) is the one who chases them when out on the range.
