Ain't Nobody Here
One of my little girls (not sure which one) has just started laying. Both eggs were laid in the nestbox . How did she know to lay there? She doesn't sleep in the eglu (or spend any time in there at all), none of the older girls are laying, I didn't tell her . Maybe she just thought, I wonder what that blue thing in the corner is ? Might be a good place to lay an egg . Clever little girl .

Gertie
Well done to your clever girl. They are clever aren't they. I don't think they deserve their dumb reputation. My new hens in their cube settled in immediately and after the torch in the nestbox on the first night, they put themselves to bed each night after. They lay in the nest too, and they can manage the ladder - they walk down it so elegantly - no flapping or flying down. I think they are clever. They even knew that I put Herban in the one of the glugs...and they wouldn't drink it!!! To clever for their own good!
jill the potter
I reckon there is more to a chicken than everyone gives them credit for and not just instinct!!!
