Donna C
Can you use sand in a dust bath? I use a cat litter tray and soil but am running out of soil and girls won't use flower beds( although no flowers in at the moment) Will it harm them or do i need to buy large beg of top-soil?Many thanks
scrambledhead
I use a mixture of sand, soil and ash when I have some. My girls are not keen on sand by itself and if it gets wet it goes fairly solid!
JanTheDiver
If using sand you should really use Play sand as it has all the nasties taken out of it that normal builders sand has. I use play sand, diatom and compost in mine, the girls love it although they eat most of it
Chortle Chook
A little while ago there was a super thread on here 'What to use for a dust bath' started by Amber Sky which had some super pictures and loads of different ideas. As a result of reading that I've been waiting till I get a bigger, raised, hen house so that I can put a tub trug underneath it out of the rain containing wood ash in the middle and crushed leaves round the outside with a sprinkling of meal worms.
