catherinedon
as some of you may have read I have been very stressed about the noise level of my chickens. one did a definate cock a doodle du on tue but none yest so I tried to convivnce myself that it was just her being noisy as we had added new chickens. I have been keeping them locked in the cube until after 8 am as worried about the neighbours tolerance of noiser. well to my surprise at 8 am this morn there was a rooster happily cock adoodle dooing in the locked cube so I let them out and the noise calmed. quick school run and off to the hatchery where they instancly confirmed that my lovely bearded silki Penny was indeed a boy so he has gone to live with the other silkiesthere. My dd(age9) is sad. I have decidde not to get a new girl in exchange until spring as I want to amke sure all the remaining 7 are girls. I also tooka long my beautiful araucane Nelly as she is very noisy a very throaty guteral noise and they have happily confirmed that she is a girl and he says she is getting louder as she is getting ready to lay ARe there any other signs of being ready to lay. she is approx 28 weeks and has never layed yet. chicken harmony is being restored as all seems quiter since the rooster has gone. Did the girls know he was a rooster before he started making noise? and is this why everyone has been noiser ?
