I posted last week about the fact that I've had 3 glugs that have all leaked in various places. Omlet have been very good and have been happy to replace the faulty ones. The latest one I received they told me they had put some silicone around the joins to make sure it didn't leak. I have only just opened it and there are two quite big pieces of silicone inside the glug at the back where the seam is around the hook area. I am a little concerned however that the girls might get their water contaminated by the silicone or if they might try to eat it. Should I be worried or am I worrying for nothing :?:

I had a Glug that leaked a bit at the corner of one of the 'hooks'. I understand that it has something to do with the manufacturing process ..... when it is removed from the mould or something of the sort. I heated a knitting needle and jiggled it about a bit where the tiny hole was, and it sealed it.

Re the silicone, people often remark that their hens a re fond of eating the silicone sealant from around doors and seem to come to no harm....although it isn't a recommended addition to their diet. :D

Hi

it was one of my hens who ate a bit of silicon. It caused a blockage in her and she was very poorly. The vet could not work out what it was, but the prodding and poking loosened the blockage so she poo-ed out about a 2 inch piece of silicon (that the builders had carefully removed from our conservatory glazing and tossed in the garden!). She was immediatly cured and went on to be our best layer and a lovely hen (until fox got her).

Anyway - I think a small amount would be okay if it could pass through her gut - it was the size of the piece that she ate which caused the problem (I guess she thought it was a big juicy slug)

Well I decided to take the silicone out and then test the glug as I'm just not happy leaving it in. I got as far as getting one piece out but the other one still wasn't dry and it all went over my new cardigan, so I wasn't very happy! Still haven't got round to testing it as I am waiting for OH to make sure it's all out before I do that :?
