How much supper per chicken?

Recommended Posts

When I give treats at bedtime I worry that they might have too much.

How many meal worms should they have?

How much porridge oats should I mix up, in fact how much of anything should they have ?

I don't want fat chickens or risk egg production and I only have 2 chickens. Sometimes one of them doesn't want the treat so the other one gets the whole lot - what is the best amount ?

I think that perhaps in this weather chooks could do with a little fat. I thought I should be more concerned about how much to give my chooks when it gets a bit warmer. At the moment I have been happy to give them all they can eat. Is that wrong?

My six little chooks (Silkies and Frizzle x Polands) have porridge each morning amouting to about a quarter of a small dog dish (It is made with porridge oats, weetabix, their usual pellets and a few meal worms all stirred up with warm warter and a smidgen of milk); then at lunch time a small saucer (sort you put under small flower pots) of tit bits (beans, mashed pots, and a slice of banana each) and finally about half a handful of corn per chook each evening. They also have a Grub full of their usual pellets on tap in case they get hungry. Is that way too much? :anxious: If I feel their breast bones they don't feel fat.
