The Ashes

Recommended Posts

Not sure how many of you are following the events Down Under. I confess that I have been a "highlight" person as I do love my bed and the timings are not ideal.

OH has been getting up at about 5 am each morning to catch up on the highlights but he didn't bother this morning as the general consensus was that we would only get a draw because of the rain that had been forecast. I then heard him jumping around the bathroom when he heard that England had beaten Australia by over an innings!

:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

and keep it up lads!!

Shame that Stuart Broad is injured though. A great player and quite easy on the eye as well! :shh: (he's only 24!)

We also have been putting the radio on when we wake up in the night - although I think OH keeps waking up on purpose! I'm not really into cricket but since we won that epic battle a few years ago I do follow the Ashes; it reminds me of my Dad who loved cricket, and my bro lives in Oz and loves it when we win :D Even my mother has fallen under the spell of Kevin Pietersen from the highlights programme :lol: Michael Vaughan was beside himself with excitement at the end and when Ian Chappell was interviewed he said that normally he didn't mind losing to the English as we are 'good winners' (whatever that means) but on this occasion would we stop gloating! Apparently the bats used to be made in the next village to us and there is a lady who owned a small plantation especially to grow the willow for them. Well done the team - its so nice (and a bit odd) to be able to praise a team who were so good in all departments with absolutely no hint of the 'c' word (thats collapse Mods :lol: )

Well done England :clap: I've been following it in real time, in fact was in Australia last week, boy was the commentary there colourful...sore losers these Aussies!!!

Now, can someone please persuade the England rugby & netball teams to follow the cricketers lead & start winning. We've got the rugby world cup next year & the All Blacks are my 2nd favourite to win,but I'm so disheartened by the English Rugby team's recent results that I'm seriously considering making the All Blacks my favourites...but that goes so much against the grain!! Come on England...a great sporting nation who seem to have temporarily lost their focus!!!

I'm feeling sooooo jealous :mrgreen: It was our first time in Adelaide last year, in the heatwave, and all the TV coverage is bringing back such feelings of wanting to be there all over again. We've spent time travelling and camping in WA so I know I'll feel the same about Perth :(

Regarding the rugby, England did well to beat Australia last month, but remember the last World Cup where we'd been pretty rubbish in 6Nations etc but we still managed to get to the final (or was it the semi?? :oops: ) so I have great faith. One of my close friends is a Kiwi and he was beside himself the year we won and NZ didn't. He said the newspaper was edged in black and the headline was one word beginning with B and ending in S :lol:
