Poached
Hi Guys I've got a 2 year old cocker spaniel,Joey who loves playing with his ball but prefers food to anything but my mum has got him about 20 pedigree bone chews and i wondered if anyone knows of a good dog toy which their dog will play with on walks and enjoys playing with it. I ask this as we think Joey sleeps too much as he just goes on his bed and stays their for about 1 hour and a half Thanks Josh

The Dogmother
Sleeping that amount of time is normal - they need regular sleep during the day. Try having a sighthound - they aren't called 30mph couch potatoes for nothing! I try to use toys which involve some element of training such as retrieving or searching (yes, sighthounds do that too ).
beach chick
spaniels usually love retrieving, so maybe a ball thrower would be good? mind you, I have to have exactly the right kind of ball (very soft and squeaky) else my Lab wont chase it for me - he likes me to throw a plastic bottle with a few pebbles in, or a stick! Lesley
We tested one of those Turkey toys for Patty as well, Jazz loved it although they never last long with her. I was going to say a ball flinger as well - dogs get plenty of running around without killing their owners
lillybettybabs
Id love one of those Turkeys, Sadly gundogs can't have those sorts of things. Edited December 9, 2010 by Guest
Chucky Mama
If he likes balls and food, how about a treat ball no good on walks though. A frisbee would be good no good indoors though.
Poached
I'm liking this: http://www.solware.co.uk/gadgets-toys/4-ball-hyper-dog-tennis-ball-launcher-catapult.shtml He loves chasing his ball around the fields and could run miles for it but now he is asleep on his bed next to me barking Josh
Chucky Mama
That looks great fun. You can get ball launchers that you stamp on, like the chidren's stomp rocket. Have you got a 'Chuckit' ?
Poached
Yeah,Its not an actual tennis ball its a small plastic ball with ben 10 on it and he found it on a walk brought it home and then he does'nt go on a walk without it I have tried the chuckit but it is to small for it and falls out Josh
