Tweety
Sorry to ask a question which has been asked many times before, but I just can't find the answer at the moment. I am re-homing some ex batts today, having seen the post on here this morning, and am wondering how many can comfortably sleep in an eglu. As mentioned on the original post, run size is not an issue. I have only ever had bantams in my eglus before, and am thinking that 4 ex batts might be the maximum number to sleep in an eglu, but would love to re-home 6 if there is room. Egluntyne
The Eglu will hold four comfortably, but the run size is the issue. Four hens will struggle in the standard run, and the confined space will lead to squabbling. Admittedly, it is far more than they have been used to, but it isn't adequate. I would advise at least one extension to the run if you are getting four hens, and more if you go for six. Another factor to consider is the nest box. The recommendation is a minimum of one per four hens, so with six, you will have a queue forming. .
Tweety
Thanks Egluntyne, but as I said the run size isn't an issue. It's more a question of sleeping in the eglu. Anyway, it's probably safest to get 4 rather than 6.
jimnpaula
I have slept 7 ex batts in an eglu, but that was because we had to as the cube hadn't arrived. Also, I was only expecting 6 but they snuck another one in! I would say a max of 4. P
chicken bark
No more than 4 in an eglu - perhaps you need another eglu or cube if you want 6?
Tweety
Ironically, I have a green cube with only 2 girls sleeping in it at the moment and I did think about turfing them out to sleep with the other 8 girls in purple cube, so that the new ex batts could have a cube to themselves. Anyway, in the end I decided just to get 4 ex batts and they are now tucked up in an eglu.
