Chinese lanterns

Recommended Posts

Hmm..don't get me started :(

We have been picking up the debris from New Year at our wildlife site for over a month now. They got stuck up in our trees, and we had to get somebody with proper climbing equipment to get up there and get them down. They are metal ones, and would be very dangerous to wildlife, as well as a pain to any forestry tools such as chainsaws. We also had any number of them on the ground, and stuck in fences and so on. In the summer they could set off a grass fire that could spread to the trees, and that would not be funny: acres and acres of ancient trees could be lost just like that!

If we miss any on the ground, they could damage our mowing equipment in the meadows, and that isn't funny either.

If you are going to use them, please use the eco ones, but preferably don't use them at all! Please!

The NFU aren't happy with the Eco ones either as the bamboo goes brittle and has the same effect as cooked bones if animals eat it :(

We had a case in the local area last week where somebody had lost one of their breeding goats because a small piece of wire from a lantern had pierced her oesophagus and she bled to death.
