Minnie&Moose
Mona, our black Leghorn, took a little break from laying in December and we were down to 1 egg every other day from Mabel the Speckledy (the rest are on strike or too young ). But yesterday and today there's been a white egg waiting for us in the nest box - haven't been this excited since our very first eggs nearly 3 years ago Looks like omelettes might be back on the menu in our house soon
Blackrocksrock
Mine is much the same except both stopped laying in November and only 1 has restarted this week - but had 3 eggs since sunday so hopefully she will keep on again = she is 3 and half years old now! Minnie&Moose
I'm impressed Blackrocksrock - laying at 3.5 yrs! I'm hoping our Pepperpot, Moose, will come back into lay when she's fully feathered again - she's nearly 3.5yrs.
Blackrocksrock
Its funny I can see your hens were about the same as mine - I got mine in February 2008 and I see you got yours in the march - they started laying about a couple of weeks later if I remember for a couple of them and the last one a bit longer - I still have 2 of them and hopefully the other one will start again soon - she is pinking up nicely - lovely eggs 70 grammes this morning! Minnie&Moose
Hi Blackrocksrock - 70g egg sounds good. Sadly, we only have Moose left from our original girls (Minnie, a gingernut, was pts about this time last year). Like yours, Moose began laying a few weeks after we got her and has been a great layer until last Nov. Her eggs were always in the 70-86g range, after the first few, and although recently the shell quality hasn't been brilliant, the eggs themselves were wonderful. So I'm hoping she does make it through to laying again, not least because she's the top hen and a very sensible one at that. I've got two new hens to integrate within the next couple of months, and Moose always oversees the process by sorting out any fights between the rest of her flock - so I need her to be fit and healthy. Blackrocksrock
I read back and she did this in april 2008 with a 98g and a 104g egg and then settled down so hopefully she will do the same!

What an eye-watering way to get back into laying! Will let you know if/when Moose finally comes back into lay - not looking like it will be anytime soon though. She's wearing her comb 'pale and droopy' these days
