francine Posted January 25, 2011 Share Posted January 25, 2011 Already have two Pekin bantams aged 9 months that free range in my garden. I have now broughthome to new Pekin bantams that are about 17 weeks . At the moment I have separated them with chicken wire both in the garden and at bed time as the two older girls just 'go' for them when I have tried to put them together,continually pecking them.I only brought them home on Friday. Will they settle together? How should I go about getting them to mix? Any ideas? Its horrible to see my big girls pecking them and getting all stroppy. Redwing Posted January 25, 2011 Share Posted January 25, 2011 Its early days and the newbies are young still I'd keep them separated with the wire (double thickness if the old ones are 'grabbing' through the mesh) for quite a bit longer, the newbies should be able to defend themselves better from 20 weeks and the old ones will be used to the sight of them by then Sadly Pekins can be incredibly feisty and spiteful Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

gongladosh Posted January 25, 2011 Share Posted January 25, 2011 We had similar mixing 14 week old girls with an older hen - they took lots of fairly hard pecks. We kept them apart until they'd grown up a bit (about 20 weeks) and things went fine from then on when we tried to reintroduce them. Good luck!
