zircon
Well Wednesday was delivery day. Speckle and Freckle are lovely and just soooo sweet. Expecting a delay of 4 weeks in egg production but we have 1 already. Clever freckle did a bit of nesting and left us a pressie. Put it back for the children to find again ! We are so proud, we phoned everyone to announce the arrival !

zircon
DS14 was so excited he put it onto the window sill and it rolled into the sink, slightly cracked so we just told DD9, and quickly fried it, cut it into 4 and savoured it ! I did have a dance around the garden, but at first I thought DH was tricking me, Freckle and Speckle were both handsomly rewarded with corn though. Suzanne
I am expecting 2 chickens plus Eglu next Wednesday. I am reading the forum and am very excited but also a bit worried. You are all so clever and knowledgeable. I am absolutely green. Any tips before they arrive? I did read that it is a good idea to have another set of perches for the Eglu Suzanne. zircon
No "egg action" today as yet, I think we were just very lucky yesterday, although the kids are at home and keep checking on her, also we are all sat waiting for her to nest, maybe she needs some privacy ! I have not got anything done today, I ran out at 8 for bio washing up ligud and dashed straight home to hen care.

Don't worry we have all been there, no question is too silly. Have a good browse through the forum you will pick up loads of tips and anything else just ask. Hen Watch
Hi and welcome to you and your family. Congrats on the 1st egg. When mine arrived last month, I'd been reading all the bumpf beforehand and sold it to my children that they wouldn't see an egg for weeks. Then our first egg arrived a few days later. We are only getting 1 egg every other day. Not sure if 1 or 2 are laying as I've never witness it or spotted them going into the nest box. zircon
Another delivery this morning.....does anybody have the number for Sainsbury's Egg Buyer Freckle does this little urgent run to get into the Eglu, as though she has forgotten where the door is. Then about 20 minutes later she emerges and scoffs everything in site. Egg is beautiful and she gets lots of priase....what a clever girl. Even my teenage son got up at 7.30 to collect the egg, she really is a miracle worker. Speckle is still just wandering round wondering what all the fuss is about, she is much quicker than Freckle so we a thinkining she is a bit younger, but we keep showing her the eggs..just to remind her what she is meant to do !! I never thought I would be soooooo eggcited !
Stephi
This is my first time on the fourm - Ruby (), Primrose () and their lovely purple eglu arrived on Friday 27th April and what a joy they are, such characters! However still no eggs - probably early days but some of you are getting eggs days after your girls arrive! Lucky you. My girls spend most of the day out of their run exploring the garden - yes even today in the pouring rain! After reading lots of comments I am now worried about foxes. I would never leave the house with them out, but do leave the garden and go into the house. We have Maisie a Jack Russell who is desperate to be friends with Primrose and Ruby, but they are still all getting used to each other and have to be supervised!. Hopefully her presence will keep any foxes away. Really enjoying all the help, advice and stories on the forum, fingers crossed for first egg!
