cluckers
Maisy had broken her claw this morning and as I couldn't get the blood to stop we rushed her to the vet in a panic. The vet just dapped it with a cotton bud soaked in a purple liquid and it stopped bleeding straightaway. Now Maisy has antibiotics but seems fine. What would the purple liquid be and can you buy it? I think we should have some at home, just in case!
Egluntyne
Could it have been gentian violet? Applying cornflour will work another time.
Chucky Mama
You can buy 'Blood Stop Swabs' which are cotton buds with a solution in that stops bleeding for first aid purposes. The fluid was probably potassium permanganate.
Lewis
**Silver Nitrate** pencils are also good to stop bleeding nails (and probably beaks!)

Don't get any on your fingers though as it makes them stain a revolting brown

The Dogmother
It's brilliant though.
cluckers
Thanks everyone! Now I know what to get I can go shopping, just as soon as I get a chance! Maisy is fine now and we're quite good at administering antibiotics too, although I have had more of it all over me than she's had!
