lougarbard
Well finally one of my Cream legbars laid her first egg, and its a beautiful green colour! I am really chuft and it makes the egg basket in kitchen look lovely with another colour in there! Hopefully her 'sister' will also start any day. But then about an hour later I notice Amber was bleeding everywhere, I cleaned her up and then noticed the last point on her comb had gone, and thats where she was bleeding from. Got some purple spray, she seems fine, didnt seem to be bothering her at all, and the other hens havent taken any notice of it, but i will keep any eye out. I am wondering if it could have been caused by my young cockerel, who is quite an amorous young chap (!) and she is def one of his favourite girls, I wondered instead of holding on to her scruff if he maybe grabbed and held her comb instead? Has any seen this happen before? If it wasnt him, then I have no idea how she did it.

Alis girls
I dont have a cockerel but one of my girls got a bleeding comb late last year - i wondered if it had split due to cold. They bleed like fury and I also sprayed it and as fast as it started it stopped. Was greatly panicked thou as there was so much blood - ashamed to say I am a nurse - just not an animal one
