Marky D
Hi all, When FR this weekend i noticed one of my girls (only got 2) had some feathers missing from her "business end" (pic attached, is this normal or should i worry? Thanks, Mark,
percy049
worry... it could be that she is moulting, but she is a bit messy around there...
Marky D
She has a habit of pooing in her nesting box then sitting in it, tried to keep her out but gave up in the end, just have to wash the poo of the eggs (especially as the other one uses the same box to lay in). mollyripkim
Love your photos, they look lovely and enormous in comparison to my little girls. Sorry can't offer any advice as still too new and learning myself.
Space Chick
Could it be the other pecking?
Marky D
Dont think so space chick, they get on really well and never shown any aggression to each other. Thanks Molly.
oneyolktoanother
great pics , my orpington wyandotte has a bare bum at the moment dut to moulting, so i don't think that is anything to worry about. The feathers should start to grow back. With the messy bum like you said she likes to poop and sit in it, when did you last worm your chucks? mammapajama
I'm having balding issues right now and am considering: Mites, pecking, moulting, and mating issues. The dirty bum can be a sign of mites. Good luck!
MummyHen
I have a similar problem with one of mine - she poos in the nest box and then sleeps in the poo; I call it pooburn. I make sure I remove any poo from the next box before bedtime and check her each day to ensure that the skin isn't broken and becomes infected. Its an ongoing battle but I think its improving here; the hen seems fine doing her stuff and laying most days.
