Auto door randomly closing during the day

My poor new pullets got wet today before I had a chance to put a covering over their run. I just looked at them in the eglu and they are still wet, but not wet through though. They have all huddled together and I have shut the door.

 

Reassure me that they'll be fine and that I don't need to bring them indoors and hairdryer them

Mine have gone to bed many a night wet and I've not had a problem with them so yours should be fine... unless of course you're looking for a good excuse to bring them inside and pamper them

mine have all gone in wet tonight, but they have a tray with straw in too keep them warm as there are only 2 of them... until a weeks time

I don't think it is going to freeze tonight so I'm sure your wet chooks will be fine. Also, though their top feathers may be pretty soggy, their under feathers are probably lovely, dry and toasty. If you are still worried you could get a sheet of absorbant kitchen paper towel and just put it over their backs, one at a time, and you'll be amazed how much water it soaks up. It is far more effective than a towel, if not as effective as a nice puff from the hair dryer, and only takes a few minutes to do.

Mine got wet today as well, caught short in a downpour. I use paper kitchen towel as well, it gets the worse off and like others have said they can look really wet but the underneath feathers are dry. Try not to worry I am sure they will be fine.

Thanks everyone. I'm just going to leave them alone as they're quite nervous things at the moment. Hopefully they will calm down when they come into lay.

 

Just checked, it's forecast to be 8C tonight here so not cold at all. Phew.
